About CANDIREC

The Cameroon Nutrition & Dietetics Research Centre(CANDIREC) focuses on evidence-based nutrition research intended to enhance the quantity and quality of human life.
CANDIREC encourages high profile researchers to come together to seek sustainable solutions in nutritional issues affecting the African continent, taking into consideration the nutritional, agricultural and socio-cultural differences that exists within and between individual countries.

Researchers

CANDIREC researchers are co-opted based on their vision and track record, and have access to the centre's research equipment’s and human resources.
They are provided with seed funding from the J & A Oben Foundation to develop areas of research that are in line with the foundation's objectives.
Researchers are also provided with logistic support to apply for grants.

Stop Wildlife Crime

The fight against wildlife crime is a crucial aspect of our work. We are dedicated to combating illegal poaching, trafficking, and other activities that threaten the survival of endangered species. Through strategic interventions and partnerships, we strive to ensure the safety and well-being of wildlife across the globe.

Objectives Of CANDIREC

Considering our firm belief that life starts at conception, and the realization that the life expectancy of Africans has slightly increased in the last few years, CANDIREC has as objectives to:

Provide pregnant women with appropriate nutritional advice so as to ensure fetal health
Encourage optimal nutrition and hygiene of nursing mothers to promote breast feeding as well as optimal nutrition to non-breast-fed babies
Encourage good feeding and life-style practices among school children
Encourage the use of local / indigenous foods in the fight against malnutrition in collaboration with the private sector
Encourage physical exercise as a means of fighting non-communicable diseases and attaining an appropriate nutritional status
Promote research in Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals
Collaborate with Universities and other research centers in the training of junior researchers in nutrition related fields
Propose evidence-based innovative solutions to governments in the fight against malnutrition
Carry out contract work in the areas of nutrition, health, and diet formulation

Marine Conservation

Our marine conservation efforts focus on protecting the world's oceans and marine life. Through research, advocacy, and community engagement, we work to address the various challenges facing marine ecosystems. By promoting responsible practices and conservation initiatives, we strive to safeguard the oceans for generations to come.

Forest Restoration

Forests are vital for the health of the planet. Our forest restoration initiatives aim to combat deforestation, restore degraded landscapes, and preserve essential forest ecosystems. By undertaking reforestation projects and sustainable land management practices, we endeavor to create thriving forests that benefit both nature and communities.

Environmental Policy

Advocating for effective environmental policies is integral to our mission. We engage with policymakers, organizations, and the public to drive positive change through sound environmental policies and regulations. By advocating for sustainable practices and conservation-oriented policies, we strive to shape a brighter future for the planet.
